Perchance to Dream

This month's cello noodle is "Perchance to Dream," in which I sat down to record a quick cello noodle, became completely enthralled by the sound of notes beating against each other, and returned to consciousness more than ten minutes later to find that my cello had been busy while I was (mentally) wandering happily among the lilies.

I've spent the last week struggling to shorten the piece (ten minutes is a bit excessive, no matter how much you like cello harmonies). I did finally manage to shave two and a half minutes off the thing, but then it started defending itself, and I was forced to desist in the interest of self-preservation. (Whenever I tried to shorten it further, I'd immediately find something else that needed tweaking: some dynamics here, or the EQ there, or …ooooh shiny, lookit all the pretty notes… and then, somehow, six hours of my life would be irretrievably gone, and I'd have made only changes that another audio engineer (or maybe cellist) would be able to detect.) So, this is as short as it's going to get, and it's time for me to stop messing with it and send it out into the world… so here you go. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed creating it! (I did tremendously enjoy creating it; it was the editing that was hard. Hmmm, maybe someday I'll release the Director's Cut version…)

(This piece exists mostly because of your support. Subscriber funds recently helped me add some ASC Studio Traps to my studio; the resulting change in my sound had me in thrall the moment I donned headphones and began to play… hence this piece. Thank you, my dear subscribers. I couldn't do this without you.)
