about

Autumn greetings, dear Patrons! As we drift into October, the temperatures here in the Northwest are cooling gently, and our lovely misty mornings have returned. Our trees are feeling the change and have begun to shift their colors, quietly and decorously, from the tired greens of late summer to a rich autumnal melange of soft browns, warm russets and reds, with a touch of blazing oranges and yellows. (In the Pacific Northwest, we don't usually get dramatic fall colors like those in New England, where I grew up; but the change of season here is still lovely.)

This piece was born as I was noodling around on my guitar; I really liked the colors of these chords, which (for me) are predominantly misty grey and soft dark green, with touches of russet and deep orange. My guitar has a bright and sparkling voice; I didn't realize how dark those same chords might become when sung by a cello. (I hadn't meant this piece to sound melancholy, but apparently my cello had ideas of its own.)

I hope you are all keeping well and safe and happy.

Warmly,
Betsy

The light-grey sky at upper center of the photo is framed by leafy trees, with other trees partially hidden by the morning mist and fog. The nearest trees have dark-green foliage tipped in flaming russet and orange. The title text reads, "A Change of Season -- Betsy Tinney, cello".
